Minor Division League 10U
What is skills evaluation (STEP - Spring Training Evaluation Program) /player draft?
Competition combined with fundamental training. To keep the division competitive, we need to divide the teams by skill level. Mid-February ASBL conducts skills evaluations (STEP) for all volunteer coaches. Every player in the division is required to participate in STEP. Once STEP is completed, coaches will meet for a draft. All players will go into the draft except the coaches dependent/s. Each team is allowed 1 Head Coach and 2 Assistants. There is no carry over from previous year nor player request is honored, the draft and head coaches will determine teams.
What is the game and practice schedule at this level?
Teams begin practices in March (right after draft) and games on Opening Weekend in early April. The season ends in mid- to late May. Teams have pre-season practice at least 2 times per week, typically one to two on weeknights and occasionally on weekend days. practices will likely be more frequent during pre-season. Games are played typically twice a week; game schedules will be made available in late March. Games typically last approximately 1 hours and 20 minutes.
What does a typical game look like?
At this level, a game looks like much more like a real game of baseball. Player's pitch to each other, steal bases (no leading off), and learn to bunt. Only nine players play in the field at any time, though all players on the bench are in the batting order. The ground rule: No more than seven runs can be scored by a team in any inning will be voted on by division head coaches.
My son/daughter played last year. Can’t he/she return to the same team without attending this evaluation session?
All Players will enter the draft except the coach's dependent(s). It is quite possible that your player may return to his/her team from last season through the draft, but participation in the evaluation session and the draft is required to achieve the desired balance between competitive play and keeping players with friends, schoolmates, and prior teammates. Aside from just being a fun time, these sessions really help our coaches and league officials to understand how players have progressed. At this point the draft and head coach determine team draft.
What does my player need?
The league provides a team uniform shirt, belt, socks and a hat for each player, and catcher’s gear at each game. Players at this level need their own glove, bat, batting helmet, pants and will need to bring their own water, juice, etc. to each game. Cleats should be worn at this level.

What else is required?
Your participation as a parent. Even if you don’t step up as a head coach, parents should be present at these games to cheer on their players and help the coaches.
Mandatory Volunteer Application must be filled out before an adult can be on field working with players.
