Baseball Coach Pitch 6U
What is the game and practice schedule at this level?
Teams begin practices in March and games on Opening Weekend in early April. The season ends in mid- to late May. Teams have practice twice per week, usually on weeknights during the preseason; the manager determines practice schedule based on field availability. All games are played twice a week normally. Practice and game schedules will be made available in late March or early April. Games typically last approximately 1 hour.
When will I hear from a coach?
Teams are formed in February to enable preseason practices beginning in march. Registrations and coach availability permitting.
What does a typical game look like?
Coaches pitch a soft, safety ball to players. After 4 pitches without a ball put into play, the player gets 3 swings from a tee. Players begin to learn the concept of force outs, and the position of catcher. Coaches serve as umpires. Basic skills are enhanced as position play becomes more emphasized.
What does my player need?
The league provides a team uniform shirt, belt, socks and a hat for each player, as well a tee. Players at this level need their own bat, batting helmet, glove, pants and will need to bring their own water, juice, etc. to each game. Cleats are not required. Visit this link to view bat requirements.
What else is required?
Your participation as a parent. Even if you don’t step up as a head coach, parents must be present at these games. Helping players learn how and where to throw the ball, and which direction to run is a full team effort. More importantly, it really is fun!
Mandatory Volunteer Application must be filled out before an adult can be on field working with players.
