Registration Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When does the Season start and end?

A. The Spring Season typically starts practicing at the beginning of March and finishes around the end of May.  The Fall Season typically starts practicing near mid to late August and games start at the beginning of September and finishes around the end of October.

Q. What age does my child have to be to play Little League?
A. We use the USSSA age charts to classify "playing age".  You can click on the Programs tab in the menu and it will give you an idea of what ages play and which divisions.

Baseball Ages 4 - 14
Must be born before May 1st, 2021 for a playing age of 4
Cannot be born before May 1st, 2010 to play for age 14 group

Q. What if I don't think my child is ready to play at his assigned "playing age"?

A.  Let us know your concerns via email after you register and we can address it on a case by case basis.

Our email address is [email protected].  It's important to keep in mind that many of the kids in your child's group are not All Stars. They are learning the same as your child.  We would suggest trying the level and if after the first few practices, we can look into moving your child to the next level down.  In most cases, you will see your child rise to the occasion.

Q. What if I feel like my child is too advanced for their age level and they needs to be moved up in order to advance their skills?

A. We do not encourage moving players up to the next level.

While we know the excitement of seeing your player excel in their division, we feel that they will be in the next division soon enough.  The thing to remember that we are mostly an instructional and recreational league.  Let you child become a star at the level they are at and help them build that confidence level up and work on leadership skills.  These are also very important parts of training good ball players.

Q. What if I missed the deadline to sign up?

A. Please send us an email at [email protected] and we will see if there is room for them.

If we haven't ordered uniforms already and we have room on teams, we may be able to accept the registration.  There is a $20 late fee if you register after July 27th and before midnight on August 3rd, 2024.

Q. What days and times will my child play?

A. There is no way for us to determine the schedule for each division until we know exactly how many players sign up and what division they will be in.  We try to reserve the earlier time slots for the younger players.  Games are played on various days/times with the anticipation of games being played Monday through Saturday. We cannot know until after registration and just prior to season starting when games will be.  Each manager selects practice times for his/her team, we also cannot know this ahead of time either. We try to keep Sunday free of games.

Q. Why do I need to provide proofs of residency?

A. The Arlington Softball Baseball League leases the ball fields from the Town of Arlington.  There is a fee that the league pays to the town for every player based on whether they are a resident or non-resident.  The fee paid to the town help to maintain the fields during our season.

Q. What types of proofs of residency are acceptable?

Driver’s License, School records, Vehicle records (i.e., registration, lease, etc.), Employment records, Insurance documents,

Welfare/child care records, Federal records (Federal Tax, Social Security, etc.), State records, Local (municipal) records, Support payment records, Homeowner or tenant records 7. Military records, Voter’s Registration, Utility bills (i.e., gas, electric, water/ sewer, phone, mobile phone, heating, waste disposal), Financial records (i.e. loan, credit, investments, etc.), Medical records, Internet, cable, or satellite records

Q. What is your refund policy?

Refunds requested for the current season made after regular registration closes and up to 14 days after are 50% refundable.
Refunds requested for the current season made beyond the 14 days after regular registration closes are not refundable.

Q. How do you figure the league fees for the season?

A.  Our league fees cover the cost of the uniforms, Insurance and chartering fees, umpiring fees, Town Fees, field use, balls and catcher's equipment for each team. All of our Board members and Coaches are 100% volunteer and do not get paid to help out the league.  If we don't have volunteers, we are very limited on what our league can offer.

Q. What equipment will my child need?

A.  Your player will need a baseball glove, a bat, and a helmet.  Cleats are recommended but no required.
The bat guidelines can be found at this link.   Baseball Guidelines                Softball Guidelines
Infield Face masks are required for softball.  Helmets with face guards are not required but suggested if the player plans on playing on a more competitive level such as All Stars eventually.  When picking out a glove, you want to pick out a glove that they can control easily.

Q. Can I request a coach or a teammate?

A. No, our players are evaluated during STEP day by Head Coaches and rated on several skills. To ensure a fair balance of players on each team our board averages each player scores to rank players and divides them equally across all teams. The only players that are guaranteed to have a particular coach would be the Head coach's child, and that coach's assistant coach's child. During the Spring season, we evaluate our players via STEP (Spring Training Evaluation Program) Day.  All players ages 6 and up will attend this in the Spring to show coaches their skills.

Q. I'm nervous about who my child's coach will be.  How can I make sure my child has a good coach?

A.  Arlington Softball Baseball League tries to keep a close eye on the coaching techniques of our coaches.  If you are wanting the special attention that you feel your child needs, consider offering to volunteer to coach or work one on one with your child.  Some of the best memories you can make with your child is when you invest your time into their sports.  Our coaches are all volunteer so we do rely on coaches that care.  If you have an issue with a coach, please send your concern to us via email to [email protected].

If you have any questions or comments, we are asking that you please email us at [email protected].  We do not have a league phone number so it is the best way to get a hold of us quickly. Keep in mind that all our board members are volunteers and most have full time jobs. Our response rate is usually same day.
